Water Leaks Problems

Water leaks problems throughout the house can cause big troubles with high water bill, a good way to prevent that is to check for them.

I have been a plumber for more than 30 years and I would like to give you some good tips on helping you to try to locate leaks in your home. Water leaks problems can be very costly in price they can average from $60 a month to $1500 a month depending on the severity of the leak.

The very basic plumbing problems that occur in an average home are toilet leaks faucet leaks and heater related problems.

Houses have two bathrooms and sometimes more so is important for the homeowner to keep up with all the necessary repairs to the home. Toilets cause the most problems because of the flapper valve or the ballcock.

A flapper valve is a valve that is opened with a grip handle on the toilet to let the water go into the bowl from the tank.

Usually when the flapper valve is old the rubber on the valve has a tendency to swell up in the rubber will leave a black film on your hand.

When these observations have been made this is an indication to purchase a new flapper valve. Most of these flapper valves can be purchased at a local plumbing supply house or Home Depot or Lowe’s. Try to wrap the old flapper valve in a paper towel so you will not get your hands dirty, and so you can show the salesman the type of flapper valve that you will need to buy.

Water leaks problems also occur with the ballcock, a mechanical valve with a float that fills the tank on the toilet to a certain level and it will close the water. The most common type is a fluid master it is the most used for any toilet it is made available at Home Depot or Lowe’s.
