HAVE ANY PLUMBING PROBLEMS?

Garbage Disposal Repair and Replacement

Whether you overestimated the abilities of your disposal or accidentally dropped a whole sweet potato into it, you may find yourself in a tough situation with a jammed disposal. There are a couple of garbage disposal repair tricks you can do to get your blades spinning again.

  • Turn off the power to your unit before you do anything. To do this, find the motor under your sink and unplug it from the power source or turn off the master switch. If you know where your circuit breaker is you can also turn it off from the breaker. If you cannot access either the power to the unit or the unit itself, do not proceed and call a professional.
  • If you’ve been able to kill the power to your unit, use a wooden spoon or similar utensil and insert it into the drain. Turn it around, forward and backward, working the blades manually until the foreign object is broken up or loosened. If this doesn’t work, find the hex key that came with the disposal unit. This wrench is designed to be put into a small fitting that’s located on the underside of the unit. Turn the wrench back and forth to manipulate the blades.

If neither of the methods above works for you, call Hardenburgh Plumbing a professional West Palm Beach, Fl contractor you can count on!
