Water Heater Plumber

What happens if you have an emergency in your home with a leaky water heater? What should we do when the water heater had burst all over the floor with water and causing a significant flooding problem?

The first thing you need to do is to turn off the water heater on the top; this would be the cold side of the water heater or the water heater supply.

Sometimes after many years of not being open and closed the water heater tends to have a shut-off valve that will not work so you may need to locate the main shut off for the house.

The shut-off valve is usually a line coming up out of the ground. The type of pipe used for water service is PVC or Cpvc or copper.

The line coming up out of the ground is the supply from the water meter in the street. One of the hose bibs will have a supply coming out of the ground, and usually, there is a shut off valve that turns the water off for the house.

It is a good idea to pick up a water meter key at Home Depot or Lowe’s in an emergency situation.

Turn the electric off to the water heater in the breaker panel and  the next thing you should do is take a garden hose and connected to the bottom of the tank and start draining the tank to prevent more flooding.
